History Channel and Pilgrim Films & Television established a series of eligibility requirements to participate in Top Shot. The requirements may vary from season to season, and each applicant to the show must fulfill the requirements to be considered for the show. The requirements are established in the contestant application that each applicant signs.

RequirementsEdit

  • Participant must be a legal US resident and at least 21 years of age.
  • Participant must be in good physical condition and physically able to compete in a variety of shooting and marksman challenges that may be considered physically demanding (e.g. running, climbing, swimming, balancing).
  • Participant must be reasonably proficient with shooting and marksmanship (which can be from formal training and/or self-taught skills).
  • If the participant is chosen by the producers to move into the final casting process, he/she must be available for the final casting process. Parts of that process will be filmed for possible inclusion in the show. Producers will provide transportation and lodging.
  • Participant must be available for the taping of the program and for possible pick-up filming at later dates. Producers will provide transportation and lodging.
  • Participant must not be a candidate for public office and must agree not to become one from the date his or her application is submitted to the producers until one year after the initial broadcast of the program.
  • Participant must never have been convicted of a felony, or have criminal charges pending against him or her, under the laws of the Untied States or any state, government or country or any other offense that would in any way make it unlawful or otherwise impermissible for the participant to possess, use, operate, or have under custody or control any firearm or other weapon under applicable laws, rules, regulations or ordinances.
  • Participant must be free from any physical or mental conditions and/or any other restrictions that would in any way make it unlawful or otherwise impermissible for him/her to possess, use, operate or have under custody or control any firearm or other weapon under any applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or ordinances.
  • Participant must never have been convicted of or have charges pending him or her for any of the following misdemeanors:
    • Assault
    • Battery
    • Stalking
    • Making terrorist threats
    • Willful violation of a domestic violence protective order
    • Brandishing a firearm in an angry manner
    • Willfully discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner
    • Threatening a Public officer or employee with violence
    • Intimidating a witness
    • Taking a Peace officer's gun
    • Carrying a firearm while masked to hide your identity
    • Unlawfully bringing a firearm into a state legislative office
    • Transferring guns to criminal street gang members
    • Gun dealer transfer to an underage person
    • Unlawful possession of a machine gun
    • Possession of armor-piercing ammunition
    • Shooting at an aircraft
  • If participant is selected as a cast member, he/she must be available and willing to live in the Top Shot house during the stipulated dates without access to phones, computers, television, radio, mail or any other form of communication with people outside of the production of the show. His/her loved ones will be provided with contact information to reach production staff in the case of emergency situations only. He/she must make arrangements to be out of communication with family, friends, and work for the duration of his/her participation in the show.
